Bernie Moreno, the Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate race in Ohio, condemned the Biden administration’s consideration of importing Gaza refugees to the U.S. for resettlement.
“The administration’s reported plan poses a clear threat to national security and proves once again that Joe Biden is more concerned with bringing potentially dangerous foreign migrants into our nation than with ensuring the safety of American citizens,” Moreno said in a statement statement.

“There is no way to guarantee that these refugees do not have terrorist ties, which is why I urge Sherrod Brown to reject this dangerous plan and start putting the safety of Americans first,” Moreno added.
Moreno’s statement comes in the form of internal federal documents gained By CBS last week, which show that senior officials in the Biden administration and U.S. agencies “discussed the practicality of various options for resettling Palestinians from Gaza whose immediate family members are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.”
According to reports, one of the proposals calls for the resettlement of Gazans who escaped the Gaza Strip and entered Egypt, while another plan calls for importing Gazans directly from the Gaza Strip directly to the US
Moreno said importing Gaza refugees into American communities for resettlement is the “last thing” the Biden administration should do, adding: “We must put the safety of American citizens first.”
There are 35 Republicans in the US Senate expressed sturdy opposition to any Biden administration plan that would bring Gaza refugees to the U.S., writing in a letter to the administration: “Because more than one-third of Gaza residents support Hamas militants, we are unsure whether your administration can adequately vet high-risk groups due to terrorist connections and sympathies before being admitted to the United States.”
