Earlier this month, Townhall described how Republican Colin Allred (D-TX) said he supported Israel, and his call for President Joe Biden to freeze $6 billion in funds for Iran was complicated by his prior history. This included not only his support for sending aid to Gaza – despite the possibility that the money could go to Hamas – but his support for anti-Israel imam Omar Suleiman.
On his official account in 2019, Allred posted a photo next to the imam along with a letter of praise. The post continues to haunt Allred, especially as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), whom Allred plans to face next November, has gained increasing attention. Although the senator posted a screenshot, the original post from Congressman X’s official account still remains.
This week @omarsuleiman504 offered a prayer in the House of Representatives. His message of peace, unity and support for our countrymen is needed now more than ever. I sincerely thank him for visiting my office and for always representing the best of North Texas. https://t.co/GqhlP1rLLS pic.twitter.com/ZeGSAmszVw

Does Allred still believe that this anti-Semite represents (to utilize his words) “the best of North Texas”?

Initially, Allred made forceful statements from both of his clerk AND campaign statements supporting Israel and condemning Hamas. However, he has not yet mentioned the anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments of other Democrats in the House of Representatives, or the rampant anti-Semitism and anti-Israel views of Suleiman, which the imam conveyed in X’s account.
Suleiman’s involvement in the Congress was not only in the form of earlier prayers in the House, when he was invited in 2019 then Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX). In a particularly infamous rejoinder, Republican Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) included Suleiman’s claim that it was Israel that fired rockets at a Gaza hospital when in fact it was an unfired Jihad rocket, which Townhall was right all along.
Not only did Tlaib not remove her post, but she also didn’t say much when reporters confronted her about her position on the Israel-Hamas war, and she also made the comments last week just before Hamas supporters stormed the Cannon House building. As of Monday evening, he appears to still believe in the truth of this narrative.
Israel just bombed Baptist Hospital, killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients). @POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire and assist in de-escalation.
Your purely war and destruction approach has opened my eyes and many… https://t.co/mZYoifT7bj

Fueled by her seething bigotry, she spreads threatening disinformation and claims victimhood when people notice and react negatively. She has gained universal contempt. https://t.co/gG31ZQFNmZ

As of Monday evening, Allred had not posted on his official X or political account condemning Squad members for their anti-Israel and anti-Semitic behavior or addressed his past support for Suleiman.
Not only did Suleiman make anti-Israel statements that Israel was committing genocide, but on Monday evening he re-sent a post to President Joe Biden saying that the United States was also participating in genocide.
“The United States continues to engage in genocide in Gaza,” he wrote, referring to the lack of a ceasefire. Members of the unit, including Tlaib, loudly and even unenthusiastically demanded a ceasefire.
The United States continues to engage in genocide in Gaza, ensuring there is no ceasefire while the Israeli government continues to slaughter civilians with American weapons. https://t.co/EZlXlYDZDU

Another problematic post from behind schedule last week cast doubt on the narrative that Hamas beheads and burns children or brutally rapes women. Thus, the official Israeli X account posted photos of murdered babies a week earlier, which Townhall also reported.
Reporters have since also come forward and shared their review of footage showing more murders, rapes and torture committed by Hamas, with many pointing out that those who question this narrative are engaging in modern-day Holocaust denial or, worse still, “Holocaust legitimization.”

As we wrote earlier this month, Suleiman did not in any way regret the death of Israelis on October 7, the day of the terrorist attack in question. In fact, he even posted anti-Israel posts that day, one of the worst, as described below.
Forecasters believe there is a Senate race between Cruz and his Democratic opponent, likely Allred “Probably a RepublicanIn terms of seats that Republicans are defending, this appears to be one of the Senate races to watch, followed by the Florida seat held by Sen. Rick Scott. The 2024 map seems particularly favorable to the GOP for 2024especially compared to 2022, when it comes to the mandates each party defends. There are many Democratic officials who are considered particularly vulnerable, particularly in Montana, West Virginia and Ohio.
When Israel “defends itself” against the Palestinians, its reaction is as inhumane and cruel as the apartheid it skillfully manages on a daily basis. Entire families are annihilated and the world says nothing. The only way to end this vicious circle is to end the vicious occupation. pic.twitter.com/jwBuHh631c
