Don’t trust the polls… One study explains why there should be healthy skepticism

I don’t know what to tell you, people. This year, the polls were wrong again. And yes, there are timid Trump voters out there. If we thought the left’s obstinacy was terrible in 2016, it was bad – and it was – these people were rioting in the streets all summer long. They burned the cities to the ground. They have destroyed countless livelihoods through looting and wanton arson. And they are more than willing to doxx you and harass you in public places. Do you really want to publicly show your support? Considering what we’ve seen all summer and living in a liberal zone, I would just mess with these so-called pollsters if they ever called me.

However, one company, CloudResearch, decided to simply look at the shy voter theory and asked a basic and general question in its survey: “Do you feel comfortable revealing the presidential candidate you intend to vote for in a telephone survey? ” in September published their results which showed that “shy Trump voters” they are there again: :

11.7% of Republicans say they would not provide their true opinions about their preferred presidential candidate in a telephone poll.

By contrast, just 5.4% of Democrats say they would be reluctant to share their true voting intentions – about half of Republicans are reluctant to tell the truth in telephone polls.

10.5% of independent voters fall into the “shy voter” category, which is just a percentage point less than Republican response to telephone polling.

After asking about people expressing their true opinions during phone interviews, we then asked about their preferred candidate. This order was critical because we didn’t want to fall into the same trap as other interviewers who usually lead by declaring preferences. When we broke down the responses based on current Trump and Biden supporters, we found the following:

10.1% of Trump supporters said they were probably not telling the truth in telephone surveys – twice as many as Biden supporters (5.1%) were reluctant to share their true intentions.

When respondents indicated in polls that they were not telling the truth, we checked these answers and then asked why “shy voters” were afraid to share their voting intentions…

The company added that the main reasons interviewers feel uncomfortable are “lack of trust in telephone surveys as true anonymity”, fear of having phone numbers linked to recorded responses, fear that their responses will be made public in some cases. way [no surprise]fear of retaliation and the associated detrimental impact on their financial, social and family lives if their political views were made public, and a general reluctance to conduct telephone surveys.”

They also added: “There was bad intent to mislead polls due to general distrust of the media and political experts,” but noted that this was a very petite slice of their sample.

We’re back to the same senior games again, people:

…the results of our survey – which indicate a greater reluctance among Republicans, Independents and Trump voters to reveal their opinions – should not be interpreted as an outright lie. It seems that such reluctance results from a lack of trust in the anonymity of polls and fear of the consequences of making their opinions public.

The results may affect the actual accuracy of telephone surveys; if Republicans, independents, and Donald Trump supporters (regardless of party affiliation) are less likely to participate in polls or accurately disclose the candidate they support, this inevitably generates biased polling results.

Given the razor-thin margins in swing states, this attitude could have sedate consequences…

I mean, Joe Biden is not a Pennsylvania lock. If he actually led by seven to ten points, that would be the case, and the same goes for Florida. Biden can’t build that kind of advantage and underperform in places like Miami-Dade, the most populous Democratic county in the state. Trump and Biden are tied in this county. I have no doubt that Biden will carry it, but probably not to the extent necessary to win the state. And all the while, polling agencies are covering up dozens of Trump voters who are waiting in this statuesque grass.
