Case for voter’s ID card

Recent moves by states to escalate the integrity of America’s electoral process by requiring voter ID cards – an idea supported by most Americans – have caused quite a stir among liberals. Author James Boyard once wrote, “Democracy must be more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner.” Wolves don’t play fair, especially here in Alaska. One day, a wolf devoured a dog in front of its owner, even though she tried to defend him. If we do not demand fair and straightforward elections, we will one day be ruled by wolves of a different kind.

Supporters of voter ID laws are making accusations, suggesting they are motivated by hate, as Vice President Biden said in February. Others say it is a racist move intended to prevent minorities and impoverished people from voting, which is not true given that states requiring voter identification offer the cards for free.

But let’s be real here. We need ID for almost everything, such as buying alcohol and cigarettes, using cable TV, buying a cell phone plan, boarding a plane, visiting a doctor, getting a driver’s license… or a passport… or a Social Security card. , qualifying for welfare, entering government buildings, and even enrolling in Obamacare.

Liberals support ID rules for every other occasion. The first lady needed a Social Security number and photo ID to perform a book signing in 2012. Attendees at the 2012 Democratic National Committee convention in Charlotte were asked to bring out state-issued IDs in the same state (NC) where 30,000 people found on voter lists died. Just last month, NAACP organizers attending a “Moral March” rally against photo ID laws instructed marchers to march with a photo ID. Ah, hypocrisy!

So why are they so afraid of voter identification? Maybe because liberals couldn’t win the election without rampant voter fraud? Consider this: A recent investigation by the New York City Department of Criminal Investigation resulted in undercover agents showing up at polling places pretending to be people who had moved, were in prison, or had died. They were allowed to vote 97 percent of the time, according to the report. Another investigative report found that Florida had a huge number of non-U.S. citizens registered to vote, and a 2012 Pew Poll found that across the U.S. at least 1.8 million deceased voters are registered as entitled to vote.

True the Vote, which says it is targeting the IRS, says more than 24 million voter registrations were invalid in 2012; more than 2.75 million people were registered to vote in more than one state; various counties in Indiana and Ohio had more registered voters than residents; More than 100 percent of voters were registered in 160 counties in 19 states; and the Florida Democratic Party and the La Raza National Council were under investigation for alleged voter registration fraud.

The latest news from the Philadelphia Inquirer potentially reveals a much darker side to the voter ID issue. A March 17 investigative report titled “Kane Closed the Sting That Ensnared Philadelphia Officials” found that four local Democratic legislators allegedly accepted “multiple bribes ranging from several hundred to thousands of dollars in cash and Tiffany jewelry… in exchange for votes or contracts, including opposition to Pennsylvania’s proposed voter ID law.” Republicans were also offered bribes, but they didn’t bite. Despite what the Inquirer called solid evidence, the state’s new attorney general, Kathleen Kane, a Democrat, “secretly dropped the case in 2013.” – even without the slightest interest from AG Eric Holder.

Considering that people who are dead, incarcerated, or non-citizens probably won’t complain if someone fraudulently votes in their name, don’t you think voter IDs are a great idea? Otherwise, the wolves will surround the last bastions of democracy and voting will become as worthless as voting in Pyongyang.
