Virginia GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares said this week that he is concerned about the potential for foreign money to influence U.S. elections through the Democratic online fundraising platform ActBlue, which he is investigating.

“I don’t want to describe ActBlue in too much detail… I have long been concerned about what I have seen with foreign influence abroad, whether through nonprofits or others using foreign money to essentially support policy in the United States,” Miyares said on John Solomon reports podcast.

House investigators formally urged ActBlue to expand its ongoing investigation into possible illegal foreign financing in the 2024 elections, after the Treasury Department confirmed to Congress its money laundering detection system has generated hundreds of reports of suspicious activity related to the online fundraising giant.

Chamber members and ActBlue itself were informed of the development in a series of notes received this week by: Only News it confirmed lawmakers’ fears that foreign adversaries like China, Iran, Venezuela and Russia could funnel illicit foreign money into Democratic coffers using the names of unsuspecting American donors.

“No candidate for state or federal office can accept donations from a foreign entity, so I’m very concerned about this,” Miyares said.

$16 billion

He added that leaders like the president have enormous influence on the world stage and that foreign donations are a huge problem, referring to the Clinton administration’s fundraising for the People’s Republic of China.

ActBlue, which has raised more than $16 billion in tiny donations to liberal causes over the past two decades, did not respond to multiple requests for comment. CVV codes, the three-digit security number found on the back of credit and debit cards, are often required for security donations, and there have been allegations that these codes are not required for ActBlue. Due to the Paxton investigation, now ActBlue orders codes. According to Texas Scorecard“ActBlue has cooperated with our ongoing investigation,” Paxton said. “They have changed their requirements and now include “CVV” codes on their platform for donations. This is a key change that could lend a hand prevent fraudulent donations.”

Miyares also launched an investigation into ActBlue, claiming that his constituents had approached him about the matter.

“I was actually also approached by some of the voters who said that [Act Blue] suddenly it showed up on credit card donations and they were lifelong Republicans,” Miyares said.
