The Biden administration will introduce changes to the asylum system

by Eric Lendrum

On Thursday, the Biden administration will reportedly propose modern changes to the U.S. asylum system, focusing primarily on changing the rules that make illegal aliens ineligible for asylum.

According to Policy, four anonymous sources described the upcoming changes, including the stage at which illegal people could be deemed ineligible for asylum status. The current system states that eligibility is determined based on several factors at the final interview stage, but the modern rules will change these standards and apply at the pre-selection stage.

Under these modern rules, the federal government would allegedly be able to expedite the deportation of undocumented immigrants who have been deemed ineligible for asylum due to a risk to public safety or national security. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is scheduled to announce modern proposed regulations on Thursday.

Despite rumors of massive immigration policy changes planned by the Biden White House, the modern DHS rule proposal will not address any of them. Some of the broader proposals mentioned include using sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit illegal people from seeking asylum between ports of entry.

Joe Biden has faced widespread backlash for his open-borders approach to immigration policy, largely ignoring existing federal immigration law and allowing illegal aliens to flow into the country at an unprecedented rate, with millions more arriving in his wake. The crisis has led to a surge in drug exploit, homelessness and crime, and even Democratic mayors have turned against it due to the impact of the border crisis on their cities.

On Tuesday, a group of House Democrats wrote a letter to Biden demanding he sign an executive order ordering “immediate further action to restore order at the southern border and fix our broken immigration system.”

“This is an issue that I think the administration can pull levers on, and we encourage the Biden administration to look at all of them because Republicans seem to want to complain about it and do nothing,” Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) said in a statement. Tuesday.

The proposed modern rule is seen as a slight pushback against an open borders approach, leaning more towards increased deportation options, which will likely draw the ire of a far-left base that supports mass amnesty and rights for undocumented people.
