Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, a Republican, said this week that his office will investigate the case of an abortionist who cared for a 10-year-old Ohio rape victim.
In interview this week with Fox News’ Jesse Watters, Rokita said his office will investigate Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an OB-GYN in Indianapolis, who said Indian Star in an article published on July 1 that she was caring for a 10-year-old patient who was six weeks and three days pregnant. Bernard contacted the patient after receiving a call from a pediatric physician in Ohio. Ohio’s pro-life laws reportedly made it arduous for her to choose in that state.
“We have an abortion activist acting as a doctor who has not come forward before,” Rokita said. “So we are gathering evidence right now and we will fight this until the end, including looking at her [Bernard’s] license in case of failure to report. In Indiana, it is a crime to… willfully fail to file a report.”
“This is a baby and there is a strong public interest in understanding whether anyone under 16 or 18 or any woman is performing an abortion in our state. And if a child is being sexually abused, of course the parents need to know about it. The authorities need to know. Public policy experts that we all need to know as citizens of a free republic so that we can stop this. “It’s a terrible, terrible scene caused by Marxists, socialists and those in the White House who want lawlessness at the border, and then this girl was politicized in order to kill more children,” he added. “This abortion activist [Bernard] is front and center, lamestream media, fake news, is right behind it and unfortunately in Indiana the docs are fake news and they jumped right into it all thinking it would be great for their abortion movement when this girl was so treated brutally.”
As Townhall follows, The Columbus Dispatch reported Wednesday that 27-year-old Gerson Fuentes is accused of impregnating a 10-year-old Ohio girl who crossed state lines for an abortion (via The Columbus Dispatch):
A Colombian man has been charged with impregnating a 10-year-old Ohio girl whose trip to Indiana for an abortion gained international attention after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and trigger Ohio’s abortion law.
Gerson Fuentes, 27, whose last known address was a northwest Columbus apartment, was arrested Tuesday after police said he admitted raping the child at least twice. He has since been charged with rape, which is a first-degree felony in Ohio.
Columbus police were made aware of the girl’s pregnancy through a June 22 referral from her mother to the Franklin County Children’s Department. Jeffrey Huhn testified Wednesday morning at Fuentes’ arraignment. Huhn said the girl underwent a medical abortion on June 30 in Indianapolis.
Huhn also testified that DNA from the Indianapolis clinic is being tested on samples taken from Fuentes and the child’s siblings to confirm involvement in the abortion.
Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Cynthia Ebner said the case did not justify holding Fuentes – who is believed to be undocumented – without bond.
Townhall obtained footage of Fuentes making his first court appearance.

As Mia reported, Fox News reporter Bill Melugin confirmed via an Immigration and Customs Enforcement source that Fuentes “is a Guatemalan citizen in the U.S. illegally and ICE has placed him in custody along with local law enforcement.”
Spencer reported Tuesday that Ohio Attorney General David Yost, a Republican, said in an interview this week that there was “no whisper” among law enforcement that a 10-year-old rape victim could not get an abortion after the Supreme Court overturned the ruling. . Roe v. Wade.
“Maybe something even more telling,” Yost continued, “my office runs the state crime lab. “In any case like this, you’re going to have a rape kit, you’re going to have biological evidence, and you’re going to look for DNA analysis – which we do in most DNA analysis in Ohio – doesn’t require a case analysis that looks anything like this,” Yost added.
Yost’s comments came after Biden repeated the story in White House remarks on executive action on abortion.
“Recently last week it was reported that a 10-year-old girl was raped. Ten years. And she was forced to leave the state for Indiana to try to end the relationship [pregnancy] and perhaps save her life. This last part is my judgment. Ten years,” Biden said.

As Spencer noted, Ohio’s pro-life laws would not prevent a youthful girl from having an abortion.
“Ohio’s heartbeat law provides a medical emergency exception that is broader than just the life of the mother. “This young girl, if she exists and if this terrible thing actually happened to her – it breaks my heart to think about it – did not have to leave Ohio to seek treatment,” Yost said.
