Tom Zawistowski, chairman of the We the People convention, said he believes Bernie Moreno, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Ohio, will defeat incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) in the Nov. 5 general election.
Although Brown has consistently outpaced Moreno in previous polls conducted over the past few months, a poll released Wednesday by Naples News Service can be seen Moreno leads Brown by two percentage points (48 percent-46 percent) among likely voters.
Zawistowski said Brown’s decline in polls came as Ohioans began to realize the incumbent senator was “just a fraud.”
“Brown is simply a fraud. In fact, he runs ads in which he says he is not with any party, he is with the people and that he is not a stone-cold communist democrat. No one believes it and that is why you see it,” Zawistowski explained in Wednesday’s edition Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
Zawistowski discussed a bill introduced by Brown in the U.S. Senate that would put 33 million petite business owners in jail or face hefty fines if they fail to complete and file a form with the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network by January 1, 2025.
Brown introduced the Corporate Transparency Act in 2021 as part of a national defense authorization bill to prevent and combat “money laundering, terrorism financing, corruption, and tax evasion.”
When then-President Donald Trump vetoed the fiscal 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, Congress voted to override the president’s veto and passed the Corporate Transparency Act.
By law, petite businesses with turnover of less than $5 million must complete and file beneficial ownership information reports by January 1, 2025. Failure to do so could result in a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of up to $250,000.
Zawistowski, who is a petite business owner himself, said Brown Bill is “devastating” for petite business owners and warns the requirement is essentially a made-up “hit list” for the middle class.
“When we say Kamala Harris is a communist or ‘Tiananmen Tim’ and all that, we’re not kidding. They’re at war with the American people and the only way they can win is by killing capitalism, meaning small businesses,” Zawistowski added.
Zawistowski said the crackdown on petite businesses, seen in the Brown Business Transparency Act among other things, is another reason Ohioans should plan to vote and encourage others to do so.
“We need to register people to vote… We need to talk to people and get them to vote. We need to vote early because once you vote, we don’t need to spend more money on text messages, emails, phone calls or knocking on doors to get you to vote. That gives you time to help us get more people to vote. That’s it. That’s the heart of the matter if we don’t stop these people who want to create a socialist country where the government controls everything,” Zawistowski said.
“This is our last chance and we’re doing everything we can here in Ohio,” Zawistowski added. “Let’s just keep fighting.”
