Jake Ellzey Wins Texas Runoff Election, Defeating Trump-Endorsed Susan Wright

Voters in Texas’ 6th Congressional District elected state Rep. Jake Ellzey in a special election Tuesday night. Ellzey defeated former President Trump-backed candidate Susan Wright, whose delayed husband previously held the seat. Wright was also endorsed by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

Democrats were eliminated from the runoff election in May, guaranteeing GOP control of the seat. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) congratulated Ellzey on her “hard-fought” victory.

“Congratulations to Jake Ellzey on a hard-fought victory. #TX06 “The district elected a staunch conservative who will fight the Democrats’ socialist agenda of open borders, higher taxes, and massive spending packages that are causing the prices of goods to skyrocket,” Chairman Tom Emmer (R-MN) said in a statement.

Ellzey’s victory reduces Speaker Pelosi’s majority in the lower house to just eight seats.
