Tim Ryan Continues to Break Campaign Promises, Laughs About Having to ‘Suck Up’ to Chuck Schumer

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), who is running for higher office against Republican J.D. Vance for what will be Sen. Rob Portman’s (R-OH) open seat, continues to backtrack on his promises to voters. Ryan has repeatedly sought to portray himself as a “moderate” Democrat who is not beholden to leadership and will work across party lines.

But a up-to-date video clip of Ryan’s statements shows otherwise. While speaking of North American Construction Trade Unions (NBTU) Legislative Conference 2022, Ryan brazenly sucks up to Majority Whip Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who was in attendance at the meeting.

“Senator Schumer is here and I want to make sure he’s my next boss, so I have to complain a little bit,” the congressman said, laughing with the audience.

Vance, who posted the clip on Twitter, highlighted the stark contrast between himself and his opponent.

A Vance campaign spokesperson provided Townhall with a statement about Ryan’s remarks. “Two-faced Tim Ryan has wasted millions trying to convince Ohioans of the lie that he is a moderate, but his dishonest campaign has been completely undermined by his own words and voting record. He claims to be non-partisan, yet he sucks up to Chuck Schumer and votes with Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time. This guy is a total fraud and the people of Ohio will be sending him out in November,” the spokesperson said.

But it’s more than just Vance’s tweet. Last weekend, Vance spoke at an event in Avon, Ohio, where he emphasized that he doesn’t care what mainstream media or polls say about the state of the race, but what Ohioans say.

At the event, Vance acknowledged that “we have a tough campaign” because Tim Ryan, who voted 100 percent with Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, ran for three months using out-of-state money and duplicitous TV ads that portray him as a moderate and even a conservative, “despite having voted for everything that has made this country less free, less prosperous and less safe.”

One Ryan TV ad in particular paints him as a moderate is his “Neighborhood” ad from June. At one point, he states that “I don’t answer to any political party” and that “I answer to the people I grew up with.”

Rep. Ryan has had a bad news cycle lately.Tim Ryan“was all the rage on Wednesday, partly due to the release Marist poll. Vance is up 46 percent, Ryan 45 percent, while a significant 9 percent remain undecided. The poll was conducted Sept. 12-15 and included 1,347 adults with a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

Vance has an average advantage of +2.2, by RealClearPolitics. According to Hill/Emerson Vance was +4 while Trafalgar was +5. Predictions see race as “Lean Republican” or “Likely Republican”. Decision Desk HQ also considers race as “Leans Republican” and gives Vance a 71.2 percent chance of winning.

Others also highlighted Ryan’s comments last week in which he called “Morning Joe” and said we need to “kill and confront this movement” of so-called “extremist Republicans.” Ironically, Ryan made that comment on the sidelines, trying to claim he was willing to work with members on both sides of the aisle.

As Matt and Mia emphasized, 41-year-old Shannon Joseph Brandt is accused of killing 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson in McHenry, North Dakota, as a result of a “political argument” because the suspect believed the teenager “belonged to a group of Republican extremists.”
