Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Defends ‘MAGA’ Phrase

Former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. interpreted on Sunday, he presented former President Donald Trump’s eminent slogan “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) in a positive lithe.

Kennedy, who suspended his presidential campaign on Friday and then endorsed Trump, explained how the term “MAGA” has often “troubled liberals” who see it as “a call to go back to the America of pre-civil rights, pre-gay rights, pre-women’s rights.”

Kennedy, however, offered a different interpretation of the phrase and explained that his interpretation was the result of a meeting with Trump himself, his inner circle, and supporters of the former president, saying, “I have a more generous interpretation, one that is closer to my experience with Donald Trump as he is today.”

Kennedy said that “MAGA” “reminds us of a nation full of vitality, fighting spirit, hope and self-belief.”

“This was an America that was beginning to confront its dark shadows, that could acknowledge the injustices of the past and present while celebrating its successes. It was a nation of broad prosperity, with the most vibrant middle class in the world and an idealistic belief (if inconsistently applied) in freedom, justice and democracy. It was a nation that led the world in innovation, productivity and technology. And it was the healthiest country in the world,” Kennedy said.

“I’ve talked to many Trump supporters. I’ve talked to his inner circle. I’ve talked to the man himself. This is the America they want to restore,” Kennedy added.

Kennedy’s post on X (formerly Twitter) defending Trump’s “MAGA” term had been viewed more than 3 million times at the time of posting.

The term “MAGA” has become a weapon for Democrats, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who often utilize the term to label Republicans who support Trump’s policies as “extremists.”

For example, Biden delivered The following remarks in Arizona last year weaponized Trump’s coined phrase:

[T]there is something unsafe happening in America. There is an extremist movement that does not share the basic beliefs of our democracy. The MAGA movement…[T]There is no doubt that today’s Republican Party is run and intimidated by MAGA extremists.

Recently at an event in Michigan, Biden Again weaponized the term, calling Republicans who oppose positive discrimination “MAGA extremists.”
