Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is expected to send campaign staff into the field next week to counter the Democratic convention, a campaign official said he told Fox News.
Presidential candidates typically avoid the limelight during their opponents’ nominating conventions, but President Joe Biden broke with tradition last month by campaigning in Nevada during Republican Convention. Biden only stopped a few times, though, because got infected with COVID-19.
The Trump campaign said it will have a “full cadre of people” in the field starting next Monday, including Trump and some of his biggest supporters, according to the sources. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley will also be in the field to facilitate.
“We will certainly have key people on the battlefield and available to the media to carry out the counterprogram,” the Trump adviser told the outlet.
The former president claimed at a news conference last week that he would also continue campaigning after the Democratic convention in Chicago. He is expected to hold another news conference on Thursday.
Trump held rally in Ashville, North Carolina, on Wednesday, where he contrasted his economic agenda and record with that of Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris is the Democratic presidential candidate. Trump is also expected to campaign in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Trump’s vice presidential nominee, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, campaigned in Michigan on Wednesday and will campaign in Pennsylvania on Thursday and Wisconsin on Friday.
The Democratic Convention will be held in Chicago from August 19 to 22.
