Stop dancing in the end zone, Trump won the debate

Asset I got my ass kickedHe he chokedand Clinton won by a landslide. That’s the dominant narrative from last night’s debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. I’m inclined to think last night was a tie, because neither side fell off a cliff. But if there’s anyone who really felt like Donald won last night’s debate (and is destined to win the election), it came from an unlikely source: left-wing activist and filmmaker Michael Moore.

Moore took to social media, tweeting to Clinton supporters to stop dancing in the scoring area during last night’s debate because Trump was going to win. Telling his liberal comrades that they better get used to Trump winning tonight, he also said it was time to do something to try to stop Trump from winning the election, and even addressed Bernie Sander supporters who can’t decide whether to vote for Clinton, stay home, or maybe even vote for Trump.

Moore said that Trump I would win this election for a long time, pointing out the problems with Hillary (her appalling popularity ratings), Trump’s appeal to white voters and the Rust Belt, and Clinton’s inability to get voters excited. For Moore, her vote to authorize the Iraq War was the final straw, although he said he would have voted for her to stop Trump. Here’s what he told Bill Maher on his show during the Republican National Convention (via Real limpid policy):

“I’m sorry to be the spoilsport here,” he said. “But I think Trump will win. Sorry.”

“I lived in Michigan and I’ll tell you. That’s going to be the Brexit strategy. The middle of England is Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Mitt Romney lost by 64 electoral votes. The combined electoral votes in those rust belt states, 64. All he has to do is win those four states. I was there during the primaries, he went and said they’re moving this factory to Mexico, I’m putting tariffs on cars, and that was music to people’s ears,” he added.

“And this year in the Michigan primary, more people voted Republican than Democrat. That should be concerning to everyone.”

He made this point again during the presidential election, where he lamented the fact that Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) does nothing for Democratic candidates while Pence is a solid social conservative, which was needed to balance Trump’s senior social liberalism and excite the base.

Another thing that’s music to the ears of people in the Rust Belt is Trump’s bashing of NAFTA, which he did for the first 30 minutes of the debate. How many people tuned out is another story, though Moore’s assessment of last night’s debate shows that politics can sometimes make for strange company.
