Homeland suspends parole program for undocumented immigrants over fraud concerns

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green on Friday celebrated the Biden administration’s halt to a mass parole program for migrants, saying the decision “validates all the warnings we’ve issued.”

The Department of Homeland Security suspended the program in mid-July after an internal report found a vast amount of fraud in applications submitted by those sponsoring applicants, according to Fox News. This program allows 30,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela to enter the United States each month if they have a U.S. sponsor.

Republicans have raised concerns about the parole program because of the lack of vetting of both applicants and those seeking to become sponsors. But an internal report found problems only with sponsors.

“This admission by the Biden-Harris administration validates every warning we have ever issued regarding the unlawful mass parole program of CHNV,” Green said in a statement. statement shared with Just The News. “This is exactly what happens when you create an illegal mass parole program to spare your administration the political embarrassment and bad optics of overstepping the mark. The Biden-Harris administration should end the CHNV program immediately.”

The internal report found that in some cases, the forms contained Social Security numbers, addresses and phone numbers that were used hundreds of times. It also found that 24 of the 1,000 most frequently used numbers belonged to a deceased person, and 100 physical addresses were used between 124 and 739 times across more than 19,000 forms.

The report comes as DHS sorts through more than a million applicants. As of October 2023, about 1.6 million applicants are waiting for DHS approval to enter the country through the parole program.
