Former Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich warned Wednesday that the “deep state” intelligence community is trying to overthrow Donald Trump’s presidency.
“We have the politicization of the agency, which is leaking from anonymous, unknown individuals, with the goal of taking down the president,” the former Ohio congressman told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “This is very dangerous for America. This is a threat to our republic, a clear and present threat to our way of life. So we have to ask ourselves, what is the motive of these people? Who is leaking these things? Why doesn’t someone come forward and press charges without using their name and reputation, instead of attacking through the media and not making a case for it?”
Hannity noted that spying by members of the intelligence community on the opposition party’s candidate and transition team under the guise of national security “is a 600 percent increase compared to years leading up to the election season” is a real threat.
“Our first loyalty is to our country,” Kucinich replied. “This is not about one president, this is about the political process of the United States of America, which is under attack by intelligence agencies and individuals in those agencies, yes, as you said, there may be good people there, but there are certain individuals who are lifers and want to be able to run the country’s policy. And if the president gets in their way, whether it’s a Democrat or a Republican, they’re just going to try to throw that person out.”
“Let me repeat what you said, you say President Trump is under attack by the deep state intelligence community. Is that a fair statement?” Hannity asked.
“I believe that,” Kucinich replied. “And then, Sean, it’s important to note that in October 2016, this same deep state overturned President Obama and Secretary Kerry’s decision to reach a ceasefire agreement with Russia in Syria. They overturned it and launched an attack on a Syrian military base. So that’s the problem in our country. We have to protect our people. People have to be aware of what’s going on. We have to stand up for America, not the Democrats, the Republicans. It’s about understanding what’s going on right now and understanding that our country is under attack from within.”
