Ohio Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou called on President Joe Biden to resign from the presidency “immediately” following the president’s decision to abandon his 2024 reelection campaign.
“Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race while remaining president is why Americans are so distrustful of this administration. If Joe Biden is not fit to be president in January, he is not fit to be president today,” Triantafilou said.
Triantafilou (pictured) expressed confidence that the Republican Party would emerge victorious in the November 5 election. However, he noted that candidates elected in November will not take office until January 2025.
“Donald Trump and JD Vance will win in November and save this country. They will reverse the historic failures of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to deal with runaway inflation and the rising cost of living, the immigration crisis and runaway crime” – Triantafilou he said.
“But they can’t do that until January, and the American people deserve better than an incompetent Commander in Chief for the next six months. Joe Biden should resign his presidency immediately,” Triantafilou added.
Triantafilou’s call for Biden to resign from the presidency came hours after the president’s decision was officially announced announced the end of his re-election bid in 2024.
Biden said he made the decision in the “best interests” of the Democratic Party and the country.
Shortly after announcing his decision to withdraw from running for re-election, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for president in 2024.
Harris he said was “honored” by Biden’s endorsement, adding: “It is my intention to earn and win this nomination.”
Since Harris confirmed her intention to run for president in 2024, Democratic delegates from six states — Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Louisiana — have announced they will endorse Harris at the Democratic National Convention next month in Chicago.
Although the Ohio Democratic Party has not issued an official statement regarding its delegates, party chairwoman Elizabeth Walters supported Harris’ decision to seek the Democratic presidential nomination.
“Vice President Harris has proven throughout her public service that she has the experience to move our country forward and finish the job started by the Biden-Harris Administration. She never backs down when it comes to fighting for workers in Ohio and has been a tireless advocate for abortion rights. I can’t imagine a better candidate to take on a 34-time convicted felon who faces the constant threat of further legal action,” Walters said in a statement Monday.
“That’s why I fully support Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy for President of the United States and I’m ready to get to work,” Walters added.
To officially win the nomination, Harris would need a total of 1,986 delegates.
