Ohio State Highway Patrol officers have been tasked with providing protection to U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) following a failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally on Saturday, sources said.
Black Chevrolet Suburbans with government license plates have been seen outside Vance’s Cincinnati home every day since the assassination attempt on Trump.
Ohio governor approves request for additional security measures just hours after failed assassination attempt on former president According to Down News 5 Cleveland.
When asked who requested the safety, a spokesman for DeWine and the Ohio State Highway Patrol would not provide further comment, the outlet noted.
Vance is reportedly one of three major vice presidential candidates — along with Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum — alongside Trump, who is reportedly expected to announce his vice presidential candidate on Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Trump landed in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention scheduled for Sunday, less than 24 hours after surviving an assassination attempt.
The former president’s arrival in Milwaukee came a day after he was shot in the upper right ear in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Minutes after Trump took the stage in Butler, at about 6:13 p.m. Saturday, the suspected shooter — who was later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania — fired multiple shots at the stage from an elevated position outside the venue.
Crooks, who shot and killed one spectator and wounded three others, including the former president, was fatally shot by a Secret Service officer.
Vance, from Ohio, made headlines for his response to the attempted attack, blaming the incident on Biden’s campaign “rhetoric.”
Today this is not just an isolated incident.
A central premise of Biden’s campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs.
This rhetoric led directly to the assassination attempt on President Trump.
