Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), who withdrew from the Republican primary earlier this month, NO run for president again as an independent candidate.
In an interview with CNN, his first since withdrawing from the election, Kaisch said that although he had been asked to run as an independent, he did not intend to do so, a move Kasich called “stupid” and inappropriate.
“I’m not going to do that,” the Ohio governor told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in an exclusive interview, his first since leaving the race. “I’ve given it my all where I am. I just don’t think it’s right to run as a third party. I don’t think it’s constructive.”
Kasich admitted he spoke on the phone with “someone” who wanted him to make an independent bid. The hopes of some Republican elites that they will stop their presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, have intensified as the deadlines for third-party votes approach.
But Kasich has no intention of agreeing to this.
“A third-party candidacy would be seen as something stupid,” he said. “And I don’t think that’s right. I just don’t think that’s right.”
General Mattis, another person considered as a third candidate, has also ruled out running.
