Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk says the House of Representatives committee he chairs has found the final report of the Democratic-led commission into the January 6 attack on the Capitol is so flawed that it can be deemed invalid.
“We are still investigating, but at the same time we have uncovered enough to render the investigative committee report invalid,” Loudermilk, chairman of the House Oversight Subcommittee, said Tuesday. John Solomon’s Reports podcast.
(*6*) he also said. “The evidence they have is so tainted. It’s selective. And in some cases, it’s just lies.”
The commission, chaired by Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, spent millions on an 18-month investigation and produced an 845-page final report that found Trump repeated baseless claims of election fraud and did nothing to stop his supporters from storming the Capitol.
“Every time we turn over one stone, we find evidence that we should turn over more,” Loudermilk of Georgia also said.
Since the committee began investigating the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, Republicans have argued that it was politicized and that some testifiers lied about certain events.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said there was enough evidence to declare the commission’s findings illegal.
“We continue to investigate on every front, from intelligence failures to how we managed to breach the Capitol, which should never have happened.” [and] the National Guard issue… we discovered a lot there,” Loudermilk said.
