We the People Convention Chairman Tom Zawistowski said incumbent Ohio U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is “in trouble” as he continues to avoid answering questions about President Joe Biden’s ability to fulfill his duties as commander in chief and whether Biden should be replaced in the 2024 presidential election.
On Monday, after weeks of dodging questions about Biden’s apparent decline in form, Brown he said some NBC reporter, “I’m not an expert. I’ve talked to people all over Ohio. They have legitimate questions about whether the president should continue his campaign, and I’ll listen to people.”
Zawistowski said Brown’s comments to a reporter indicate he may want to oust Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate in order to save his chances of re-election to the U.S. Senate.
“What’s really going on here, folks, is not that these Democrats are worried about winning the presidency. They’re worried about saving their own skin. Sherrod Brown is not going to come out and say he supports Joe Biden. Instead, he’s saying that Democrats in Ohio have questions about the president,” Zawistowski said Wednesday. edition With Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“I have a question for you, Sherrod. You’ve known Joe Biden for 30 years. You were in the Senate with Joe Biden. Why didn’t you criticize him for not being president of the United States? Why did you stay silent? Sherrod Brown is going to have a really hard time with this,” Zawistowski added.
Zawistowski noted that Brown voted “100 percent” with Biden, meaning the senator also shares blame for the country’s high inflation, illegal immigration and less popular policies.
“The second problem [Brown] He has that he voted 100 percent with Joe Biden. So all the illegal immigration, all the Green New Deal nonsense, all the inflation, all the money from Ukraine – Sherrod Brown was in with Joe Biden. So he’s in trouble and he’s looking for a way out. The only way he sees a way out is probably to get rid of Joe Biden as [the Democratic Party’s] “candidate” – said Zawistowski.
As for the November election, Zawistowski said Republicans are “completely behind” Democrats endorsing Biden as their candidate because the decision could bring a “Carter-style doomsday year” for the Democratic Party.
“Democrats in Ohio are afraid of what Democrats are throwing out all over the country, which is that they could have a Carter-style year of total doom where they literally lose across the board if Joe Biden remains their candidate. So we’re all for Joe Biden staying in power,” Zawistowski said.
Zawistowski also addressed the U.S. Senate election in Ohio between Brown and Republican candidate Bernie Moreno, saying that Moreno, though an outsider, has a chance to defeat the Democratic incumbent if grassroots organizers can make sure Moreno’s name is known across the state.
“[Moreno] He’s definitely an outsider. He’s a Trump guy… The bottom line is he just needs to get his name out there… Trump is going to be the one to carry Bernie Moreno and carry the state. I think that’s the crux of the matter. People say, “How can anyone beat Sherrod Brown? He’s won so many elections.” But the truth is, Sherrod Brown has never run against Donald Trump on the ticket, and that’s going to bring in people who are going to vote straight up. [Republican] and it will be good for all of us, because we have to take the Senate and the House of Representatives with us along with the presidency,” Zawistowski said.
“Here in Ohio, we think we can win three seats in the House of Representatives in addition to the Senate seat,” Zawistowski added.
