Three critical races for Republicans

Nearly half a year into the Biden administration and Democrats’ narrow control of both the Senate and House of Representatives, conservatives basically had to hold their breaths and hope that West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin would continue to rein in the wildest of the lunatic leftists he had for us in up your sleeve. And while the damage was indeed grave – multi-billions of dollars down the drain and countless executive orders eviscerating everything that is good and right in America – it certainly could have been worse.

Fortunately, the damage done so far can largely be reversed IF Republicans start acting like Republicans AND START winning elections again — starting later this year and continuing into the 2022 midterms, when a solid election cycle could mean GOP control of at least one, if not both, houses of Congress.

Here are three key races to watch between now and 2022:

2021 Virginia gubernatorial election.

Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin walked the line between fully endorsing former President Donald Trump and appealing to more moderate Republicans during his primary victory earlier this year. That didn’t stop him from winning Trump’s endorsement and likely helped him stay in the race against the Democratic candidate, former Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe of Virginia, in what has become a solidly blue state.

Young there is a survey 1 to 4 points behind McAuliffe, within the margin of error and within striking distance of victory in a state where Republicans have won only one major election (presidency, U.S. Senate or governor) in the last decade and a half. Will ultra-liberal policies like gun control, along with lockdowns and months-long orders imposed by Governor Blackface, be enough to tip the scales against power-hungry Democrats, or will the pre-election period return to normal, completely erasing all the bad memories?

Virginia is a blue state, but it’s also a bellwether. The only Republican to win a statewide primary office relatively recently, former Gov. Bob McDonnell, won his term in 2009, a year after Obama won and a year before Republicans took over the House of Representatives in 2010. If the GOP can win the Virginia governorship or at least hold it closer than expected, or even take back one of the two statehouses, Democrats could have a tough road ahead in 2022.

Georgia Senate Race 2022

Despite the fact that Biden and the Democrats are doing everything in their power to burn the country to the ground, and the party opposing the incumbent usually does well in the midterm elections, the landscape for the U.S. Senate in 2022 is not good for Republicans. Unfortunately, the GOP is stuck defending sensitive areas in the purple states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, as well as the for various reasons closely contested races to replace retiring senators from North Carolina, Ohio, and Missouri. They must win ALL of them before they can even think about defeating the Democratic incumbent to reclaim the Senate, which is currently 50-50.

On the positive side, however, there is a golden opportunity to regain a seat in Georgia that shouldn’t have been lost in the first place, and the incumbent Democrat in the hottest seat is Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, whose far-left position clearly deviates from the norm even in a newly minted purple state.

However, turning this gap into a victory can be a convoluted task. Former Republican Doug Collins and former Sen. David Perdue have said they will not enter the race, but former Sen. Kelly Loeffler, who lost to Warnock in January, has said expressed interest giving him another chance, this time for the whole 6-year enchilada. That, Georgia Republicans, would be a BAD idea, as would Arizona Republicans who have consistently supported Martha McSally as a sacrificial lamb for future Democratic Arizona senators. Are we really going to go there again?

The solution to Loeffler’s problem could be the entry of former Georgia Bulldog and NFL great Herschel Walker, who would likely have to move from Texas to Georgia to throw his hat into the ring. While Walker still hasn’t made up his mind, he is a animated potential candidate and a statewide legend who, if he were to run, would already have Trump’s coveted endorsement.

Whether it’s Walker or someone else, let’s hope Georgia Republicans choose wisely because this may be their only chance to win back the seat and reclaim the Senate for the Republican Party.

Florida Gubernatorial Election 2022

This is huge, not only for Florida’s immediate future, but for the 2024 presidential race. If Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis pulls off a relatively basic victory – and he comfortable to drive in early polls now over Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist — that bodes well for Republicans in several ways.

First, it will be a gigantic public endorsement of what DeSantis has called “liberty over Faucism,” or his general policy of trusting the public and avoiding state lockdowns and orders. Second, it will mean four more years of GOP governorship and freedom for a key swing state. Third, it would make this key swing state easier to win for a Republican presidential candidate in 2024. And fourth, it would strengthen DeSantis’ legitimacy as a viable presidential candidate in 2024 should he decide to run and former President Donald Trump decides to withdraw.

There are certainly many essential political races ahead of us, but three of them are worth watching. If the GOP gets all three, watch out!
