Liberals are funny nerds now

Well, it had to happen. Y’all know I’m not a Bill Maher hater. He attacks conservatives, yes — but he has been equally brutal towards progressives and “woke” people on campus. He criticizes cancel culture. He ridicules the speech codes that liberate the far left. And he is not afraid to criticize radical Islam. Maher has been on fire lately, telling medical experts to stop mixing politics with COVID theater. He also had perhaps one of the best comments about the January 6th Capitol riot. He decided not to take the lethargic route and took a nuanced approach to the events of that day and the shooting of Ashli Babbitt. So take it with a grain of salt, people. And if you’re really offended, well – you’re just proving his point.

Maher brought up Matt Gaetz’s story, in which the staunch Trump supporter and Florida congressman was embroiled in a sex scandal with a younger woman. She’s 17. If that allegation is true, well, something has to happen legally. So far, we know that Gaetz has been going to parties where there are drugs and people are having sex. Look, here’s my libertarian side: I don’t really care about parties, drugs, and consent from adults. But Maher noticed that there was something weird going on between the two sides with this story. They’ve switched roles. The GOP is having fun, while the Democrats are acting like the Office of Public Morals. As Maher pointed out, which is true, conservatives have their asses screwed up so strenuous you could grind diamonds into dust. Maher’s rise is tearing at the conservative establishment of the 1980s, but it’s really galvanizing him to take on the woke left, which he says is the millennials who embody all the bad traits of Southern Baptists. The left now advocates for speech codes, blacklists, and cancel culture. They’re “fun suckers” (via Hill):

The right used to be the party that got offended by everything. They were the party of speech codes, blacklists, moral panics and demanding that some TV show disappear,” Maher said on his show.

“Well, that’s us. Now we are losers. We suck the fun out of everything: Halloween, the Oscars, childhood, Twitter, comedy,” he added.

He claimed Democrats “can’t tell Anthony Weiner from Al Franken,” referring to sexual harassment accusations against two former Democratic politicians, and criticized the party for forcing former Rep. Katie Hill (D-Calif.) relenting when her nude photos were leaked.

The host compared examples to several cases of Republicans engaging in behavior he believed the GOP would have previously condemned, mentioning former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) working for a marijuana company and former Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife admits to a past affair.

“We need to restore the natural order of things. I don’t want to live in a world where liberals are stiff and conservatives do drugs and have sex,” Maher joked, adding that “Democrats are the party of free love, fun and forgetting where you parked your car.”

The HBO host noted that if Democrats really want to take on this role or moral defender against anything offensive, they need to erase all their heroes: FDR, JFK, RFK, Martin Luther King and others, all have to resort to various improprieties.

I think it’s kind of funny. He’s a comedian from the Los Angeles area, guys. Don’t let him get under your skin too much, because in many ways he’s right. He was right about conservatives being too uptight in the past, and he’s certainly right about the left’s behavior today.
