Data center failures. Haley BeMiller of the Columbus Dispatch reports: “Gov. Mike DeWine is suspending data center tax credit that has grown to $1.6 billion.“
Ohio is halting a controversial tax break for data centers that cost nearly $1.6 billion last year.
Gov. Mike DeWine said the state will not consider novel applications for a sales tax exemption that would allow companies to save money by building data centers in Ohio. The tax break would cost nearly $1.6 billion in 2025, according to the Department of Revenue, a figure that has shocked and angered lawmakers who say it’s bad for Ohio.
The 2025 price tag — first reported by Signal Ohio — also beat estimates that Ohio would give up just $136 million. A Department of Revenue spokesman attributed the discrepancy to “significant growth in the data center industry.”

Solara and the Supreme Court. Signal Ohio’s Jake Zuckerman reports: “Permit for 6,000-acre solar project invalidated by Ohio Supreme Court, at least for now.“
The Ohio Supreme Court has struck down a permit previously given by state officials to build a massive 6,000-acre industrial solar farm and battery operation in Madison County.
On Tuesday, the day the ruling was announced, a divided majority of Republican justices sided with a sweeping challenge brought by local and county officials against Oak Run Solar, which would be located in rural farmland between Columbus and Dayton.
This represents a significant setback, but not necessarily a fatal blow to the facility.
