President Donald Trump does not play a role in Ohio’s redistribution process, according to House Ohio, Matt Huffman, who said that he would not be forced to give administration the desired maps.
Although Ohio leaders have just announced a joint Congress Redistriction Committee on Wednesday, the process is already rocky.
“We are angry when the other side causes a press conference and says,” It must be or nothing else, “said Huffman (R-Lima).
The speaker and republicans from Ohio are disappointed with democrats, arguing that they do not play honestly, because redistribution should be a bilateral process.
The joint committee is to start the trial by publicly drawing a map. Each of the leaders of the Chamber and Senate can appoint representatives with four Republicans and two democrats to the Chamber.
State representative Adam Bird, R-New Richmond, will be a co-chairman and will join them Rep. Nick Santucci, R-Niles, Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, DJ Swearingen, R-Huron, Desiree Tims, D-Dyton and minority leader Dani Isaacsohn, D-ccinnati.
Senate President Rob McColley, R-Napoleon, chose the senator Jane Timken, R-Jackson Township, as a co-chairman, and will make sense. Theresa Gavarone, R-Bowling Green, Steve Huffman, Ritip Ritip, Bill Reneneke, R-Tiffin, Willis E. Blackshear Jr., D-Daynon and Senate Minwerter, D-Lakewood.
“They did not want the map” behind closed doors “to a metaphor – in clearly it happened yesterday with a map,” said Huffman.
On Tuesday, the Democrats introduced their version of the map.
Democrats from Ohio are introducing a proposal to the redistribution of the congress
There are currently 10 Republicans and 5 Democrats representing Ohio at the USA house. President Donald Trump won 55-44% Ohio in 2024. In this result, 15 Congress Districts Ohio were proportionally eight Republican and Seven Democratic. This proportionality was reflected on the DEMSA map.
“The best redistribution proposal that each party presented,” said Antonio on Tuesday.
Assistant to the leader of the House minority, Phil Robinson, D-Solon, said that their proposed map is double-sided and made with the Ohioans contribution. He is also worried because the leaders of GOP have already said that they want maps of the Republican majority 12-3 or 13-2.
“The democratic club simply submitted, in a public way to the portal – a map,” said Robinson. “This is not our map, this is a map of voters.”
The joint committee has until the end of September to pass a double -sided map, otherwise the Redistrictive Commission Ohio.
The orc consists of seven places. Two will always go to Republicans and two to democrats in legislation. The other three places are the governor, secretary of state and auditor.
The redistribution commission is controlled by GOP, including Huffman.
“I think that a specific thing … I think the most important thing is that: many people want to talk about 12-3, 13-2 or 10-5 or exactly what is the process of approval by voters-the process according to the process.” Huffman said.
He added additional challenges he had faced for years, such as the desire to avoid lawsuits, such as in previous years, but said that people knew the current process of redistribution now than when it first passed in 2018.
“I think that the most important thing is that avoid additional side conversations that are aimed at inciting people in Ohio or the United States, stick to the constitution and make decisions based on this” – said the speaker.
While Huffman promoted teamwork, the Democrats quickly indicated how he was he cried By the two-sided Court of Ohio in 2022 for being a leadader in ignoring anti-germandier regulations.
Huffman, who at that time by the court, sat on ORC, said on Wednesday that he would appoint someone else as a representative of the chamber in the commission.
Despite this, some democrats feel carefully sanguine, because Huffman added that he would not be exerted on the efforts of the White House to get more places in Congress. The Trump administration was in favor of it in other states, but in particular in Texas.
“I am most interested in what the inhabitants of Ohio have to say,” said Huffman, when asked about Trump’s and national influence. “Of course, the President of the United States is also an important person, but there are 11 million people in Ohio.”
Trump, members of the Congress and citizens have the right to lobby about what they want, said – but Ohioans are what he cares about.
“Stan Ohio is a sovereign subject … We make decisions about what is happening,” he said.
Legislators will determine the mapsIN And if double -sided can be achieved, the speaker continued.
“We must have 50 votes to go through the map, and what I consider unreasonable demands will not be transferred,” he said.
After further pressing on Trump, Huffman repeated that every president of any party would like to have more members of his party in Congress.
“I don’t think the president calls Matt Huffman and say,” Here’s what I want “or something …” – said the speaker. “There are so many details, and constitutional fines that it will really lead us here.”
The first redistribution meeting will take place on September 22. Huffman does not think that it is possible to transfer a double -sided map to the date of September 30; So ORC would have to take over the next part of the trial.
Ohio exaggerates congress districts. What does it mean?
Deadlines and process
September 30: Legislators must transfer a map with at least 60% in each chamber with at least 50% of the support of Democrats.
If this fails, he goes to ORC.
October 31: To meet this date, it must approve at least four ORC members, including two Republicans and two democrats.
If this fails, he returns to the legislator.
November 30: This map can also pass only with a plain majority, and the map should be replaced after six years.
