The legislator in Ohio is determined to adopt a bill that would raise higher education in Ohio. Senate Bill (SB) 1commonly defined by opponents by the “Act on the destruction of higher education”, is a revival Senate Bill 83Almost identical bill, which was introduced in state legislation in March 2023.

SB 83 was finally defeated for universal public opposition. However, despite this rejection, this provisions were re -introduced by the senator of State Jerry Cirino at the beginning of this year and became a priority for many republican state legislators.

The Bill 1 Senate is a threat to LGBTQ+ Ohio students and teachers – and if the sentence will play an crucial role in writing queer students at universities and universities throughout the state.

Last week, hundreds of people went to the state to express their opposition to the Act. During the meeting of the Higher Education Committee in the Senate, over 200 people were to present opposition testimonies and more 800 Written opposition testimonies. Many of these people were strange students. Students shared concerns about what would happen to their university’s life if SB 1 passed. Not only would they lose access to LGBTQ+space and programs, future students, searching for this community and inclusion, would turn to the university and universities in other states. In some cases, students cannot participate at all in the Higher Education Program if they do not have resources to move and attend the LGBTQ+-inclusive school outside their condition.

Despite the public opposition to the bill, the committee members voted in accordance with the partisan to raise the act to the full floor of the Senate for voting. Bill adopted in the Senate February 12 21-11.

This is not the end of SB 1, because the Ohio house is still not over. And although on the face, the bill may not seem to be a direct attack on LGBTQ+ Ohioans, it will certainly have a sedate impact on students and lecturers of universities and universities in Ohio, in addition to all marginalized communities in our higher spaces.
