The leader of the minority of the Senate Ohio and Lesbian Nicke Antonio (D-Lakewood) re-introduced Act on Honesty in Ohio For the 12th time, despite indigent support among republican legislators.
The Act on Honesty – which would extend equal security of LGBTQ+ Ohioans – was previously a double -sided bill.
However, Antonio said that the concentration of Trump’s administration on anti-transgender policy and rhetoric helped to determine the more and more anti-LGBTQ+ in Ohio Statehouse.
“We should already have equal rights in the state of Ohio, so it is important to introduce the provisions that require it,” said Antonio. “People from the LGBTQ+ community should already be equal to the law in accordance with the law – and this means employment, in the apartment and during the movement of public spheres.”
“I think it’s a sad state of affairs,” said leader Antonio Buckeye Flame. “It is crazy to think that turning on all is somehow bad.”
“It should concern honesty and pragmatism”
Antonio introduced for the first time in 2015 a less composed version of the Act on Honesty, while acting as a member of the House of Representatives of Ohio.
Since then, the legislator has not been able to develop a version of the Act 11 times.
In 2021 Ohio Business competes – “an impartial coalition of enterprises involved in achieving non -discriminatory policies at a state level.”
However, after the growing national trend of anti-LGBTQ+moods, the act now has fewer co-refers than ever before.
Some Republicans suggested that the project can cause a jump in LGBTQ+discrimination processes. However, other states that granted LGBTQ+ equal civil rights did not report a significant escalate in lawsuits.
Antonio also said that the act was not designed as criminal, but contains a mediation clause aimed at helping enterprises and organizations in Ohio in moving in compliance.
“Business owners and organizations understand that this is right, but it is still the driving force of welcoming people,” said Antonio, noting that the law can also serve as an economic catalyst for the state.
“At the moment we now have all kinds of problems related to working strength. We have a lot more work than the people who filled them, “she said. “There is no point in limiting your pool of candidates or that you would not like to encourage the brightest in the brightest spectrum to come to Ohio to live, work and put down the roots.”
“I think it is very short -sighted,” Antonio added. “It should not be a democrat or a republican issue. It should be a matter of honesty and pragmatism. “
Pushing against anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment
“I think it is really important that we repel, said Antonio. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with talking about diversity. There is nothing wrong with talking about equality or justice. These are not bad things. It’s witty. “
To express support for the Act on Honesty, the Ohioans can contact representatives or members Senate Supervision and Reformation Committee. However, Antonio also encouraged Ohioan to get involved in the pursuit of LGBTQ+ at the local level.
“It is important that people talk to local officials,” she said. “Many cities now have these ordinances in books, and local protection helps to continue the conversation.”
“We have a democratic form of the government, which means” by people “, and yet there are entities at every level, saying that they can determine who has the rights and who does not” – added Antonio. “I think that it is very important that we talk in the public sphere about the fact that there are people who are marginalized based on their identity or orientation and are omitted with access to life, freedom and pursuit of life happiness.”
Although the Act on honesty is not expected to go beyond the interrogation in the Commission during a congress session, Antonio said that the fight for civil rights LGBTQ+ in Ohio Statehouse is far from the end.
“We’re not different,” she said. “I always said that there is absolutely no large enough wardrobe to put us all backwards – II we are not going anywhere.” Ding
