The media is entering the final days of coverage of the mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, over the weekend. The Asian American community in Los Angeles County was celebrating the Lunar New Year when 72-year-old Huu Can Tran opened fire at Star Ballroom Dance Studio. Eleven people were killed, and Tran was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an extensive manhunt. The motives for this heinous crime are still being investigated, but it is possible that the cause was a dispute with his ex-wife. Unlike Highland Park, Illinois, which occurred on July 4 last year, this mass shooting will soon fade from the media’s minds for a elementary reason.

You already knew this would be the next step after the race went public. Nothing can be armed to attack Republicans, gun owners, rural Americans, or the National Rifle Association. It’s not worth juicing when non-whites commit mass shootings, so they’re not a national problem – they’re local news stories. It’s best if the shooter is white but a staunch leftist, then the evasive maneuvers are really exaggerated.
Does anyone remember the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio in 2019? Probably not, because it lasted for a warm second on the news. The perpetrator, Connor Stephen Betts, shot and killed nine people and wounded more than 20 others at Ned Peppers Bar. An AR-15 firearm was used to commit the crime. You can imagine the liberal media salivating over this story: a mass shooting committed by a white guy with a gun and ammunition similar to an AR-15. Except that Betts was a staunch leftist and ANTIFA supporter. Then they all ran towards the hills. It didn’t fit the narrative.
The shooter must be a white male who used some sort of sporting rifle that liberals find terrifying to get anything political out of this. They want anti-gun threads to be reignited, they want liberal activists to fill Democrats’ war chests with promises of up-to-date gun control laws, and they want to move the needle, no matter how tiny, closer to ending the Second Amendment. It’s a long game, but Asians killing other Asians does not fit the formula of far-left politics that liberals want to shove down our throats.
There are no campaign dollars for non-whites killing other non-whites, so the left won’t care. They’ll get to the bottom of the motive because it looks like the police are already working on something hours after the shooting, which the liberal media is probably relieved to learn because it means they’ll be able to put some closure to the case soon. The sooner the better, because there is nothing to gain here in terms of helping our Democratic Party allies.
This story will soon be smothered with a pillow and forgotten. And make no mistake – after the Lunar New Year shooting, there will be no calls from leading Democrats for strict up-to-date gun laws. But you already knew that.
