In the preamble to the United States Constitution, our Founding Fathers declared that the great centerpiece of our government was created by “We the People of the United States.” It definitely wasn’t “We the Politicians” or “We the Bureaucrats.”
Unfortunately, our federal government has completely abandoned the “We the People” slogan. This has never been more evident than in the sickening spectacle of the recently passed $1.7 trillion monstrosity known as the omnibus spending bill.
Although the law admits it 800 billion dollars in non-defense spending insufficient funds to recruit more border guard officers. Despite the historic onslaught of migrants arriving across our southern border, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) received no spending increases in the bill “to account for inflation.” Also placed limitations on ICE in their working relationship with local and state law enforcement agencies.
The legislation recognizes that our politicians have shown contempt for the security of our borders $410 million for the security of the borders of Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia and Oman. Once again, the needs of citizens of other countries were put before the protection of the American people.
The bill generously funded a slew of progressive dreams. For example, it included $12.3 billion for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that they just received 80 billion dollars in the Act on Reducing Inflation. It also provided $10.14 billion for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), $2 billion in the case of “climate and environmental programmes” and $3.4 billion for “renewable energy programs”.
The legislation designated a fresh federal building for outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and provided $3.6 million for “Michelle Obama’s Trail Project” $575 million in UN family planning programs$3.5 million for the Congressional Office of Diversity and Inclusion and funding for LGBTQ+ projects in California, Ohio and New York.
Although this legislation ignored the suffering of average American households, the Biden White House received the nomination 19.5% increasing funds for the functioning of their offices.
To say that this bill is a monstrosity is definitely an understatement. However, it was passed with the support of 9 Republicans in the House of Representatives and 18 Republicans in the Senate. These imitation conservatives are de facto Biden supporters, and many of them have supported major pieces of legislation passed over the past two years.
In fact, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was excited about the bill. He was especially joyful that this included $45 billion in additional aid to Ukraine, bringing the total support from the United States to its limits 100 billion dollars since the beginning of the war. According to McConnell: “Providing assist for Ukrainians According to most Republicans, defeating the Russians is now the number one priority for the United States.
Really? Did McConnell poll Republicans to determine their “number one priority”? Of course not, McConnell is so entrenched in the Washington beltway and supportive of our increased involvement in the war in Ukraine that he hasn’t bothered to contact “most Republicans.”
If he actually spoke to Republicans, he would find powerful opposition to his absurd claim. A recent Marquette University study showed this 58% Republicans voted in favor of “a sharp reduction in American military aid to Ukraine.” That’s all a fresh CNN study found 33% Republicans support “long-term” support for Ukrainians. Levels of support for military aid have fallen compared to previous polls July AND March.
Of course, McConnell and his fellow establishment Republicans despise the base of their party. They supported an omnibus bill that limits funding for border security. This is in stark contrast to the results of a Marquette University poll that showed that increasing border security was the most critical issue for Republicans with surprising support 94% advocating for additional “efforts to stop illegal immigration along the southern border.”
Fortunately, there are some Republicans who are in tune with the people. Former President Trump sharply criticized the bill, calling it a “total disaster.” U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) stated that “In all my travels in Arizona, not one of my constituents has said that defending Ukraine should be our top priority. Not one. This point of view was echoed by U.S. Congressman Warren Davidson (R-OH), who lamented, “It would be great to see American leaders more focused on America’s borders than on Ukraine.”
Another problem with the legislation was that it was passed in a hurry at the end of a lame-duck session of Congress. Because members of Congress were busy making travel arrangements to return to their homes, no one in Congress read the entire 4,155 pages of the Infected Pork Act. As U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) noted, “It is irresponsible to pass a bill that You have NO IDEA what’s in it NO is the answer.”
As he noticed Wall Street Journalthe omnibus spending bill was “the worst in history.” It came at a time when there has never been a greater disconnect between the wishes of the American people and their leadership in Washington. The Capitol swamp puts its priorities far above the desires of the American people.
As recent file postings on Twitter have revealed, major government agencies are working overtime to censor viewpoints that contradict federal government policy. The FBI and CIA were found to have pressured Twitter to censor social media posts containing conflicting opinions about the 2020 election, Hunter Biden’s laptop, Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine.
This type of activity is not only disturbing, it should be illegal. Our country cannot survive as a constitutional republic if bureaucrats and government politicians thwart the will of “We the People” by intimidating the media.
As the Declaration of Independence beautifully emphasized, only governments “deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” are lawful. Otherwise, “it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it.”
It is time for “We the People” to have a government that puts our needs above those of foreign governments or corrupt politicians. At the very least, our federal government needs a change of attitude.
