Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio raised the alarm over the Senate’s foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, warning that the measure is not only bad policy but also “anti-democratic.”

Speaking to Tucker Carlson in an interview published Monday evening, the Ohio Republican expressed hope that even if the bill passes the Senate, it will die in the House, citing three main problems with it.

First, the bill sends $61 billion to Ukraine to finance a “hopeless war” that will “decimate the Ukrainian population” even more than before.

“This is a terrible, terrible piece of legislation for this policy,” he said.

Second, the measure doesn’t just finance a war-torn country in 2024, Vance stressed.

“It actually finances Ukraine in ’25 and ’26,” he said. (*3*)

Finally, pointing to leaks from the intelligence community, the entire purpose of the bill “is to tie the hands of future President Trump,” he said.

“Not only in 2024 are we sending billions to Ukraine. We are trying to prevent the next president from conducting diplomacy on his terms. This is anti-democratic and will lead to endless war around the world,” Vance argued.

On Monday, the senator sent his colleagues a note detailing those points, urging Republicans to vote against the bill.

House Speaker Mike Johnson issued his own warnings, emphasizing the need to address the border issue.
