GOP Rep. Introduces Legislation to Block Federal Funds to “Corrupt” Teachers Unions

Rep. Ronny Jackson, a Republican, introduced legislation this week that would ban federal funding for “corrupt” teachers unions that have kept children out of school during the pandemic and promote curricula that disturb gender identity and sexual orientation.

The bill is called the Prohibiting Federal Funding of Teachers’ Unions Act. In statementJackson said teachers unions have played a key role in the irreversible learning loss and harmful masking enforcement policies that have impacted children throughout the pandemic.

“Corrupt teachers unions sold out our children when they lined the pockets of Democratic politicians with campaign contributions to keep students out of the classroom and then enforce mask wearing, despite clear evidence that these decisions were harmful to children’s educational and developmental advancement.” he added. Jackson said. “They have even pushed a radical and inappropriate curriculum that seeks to indoctrinate our students with a woke, racist and anti-American worldview.”

According to a report from National Assessment of Educational Progressmath and reading scores among 9-year-olds have declined over the past two years regardless of race and income level, although they were significantly worse among low-achieving students. Students in the 90th percentile showed a 3 percent decline in math scores, while students in the 10th percentile dropped 12 points, which Leah indoor for Townhall. The average scores of 9-year-olds have fallen the most on record in math (seven points) and reading since 1990 (five points).

Townhall also reported that teachers unions imposed curricula teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity on children as adolescent as kindergarten, and in some cases school districts advised their teachers to conceal students’ gender transitions from parents.

In one case, America’s largest teachers union provided Ohio teachers with online resources to direct students to guides promoting “non-binary” gender identity, “queer sex” and the idea that “transgender men” can get pregnant.

In Virginia, the administration of Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) issued guidelines that prohibit this type of curriculum and require school districts to inform parents about conversations about sex and gender.

Additionally, several teachers unions organized strikes at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year on issues such as air conditioning in schools, salaries and staffing. That’s despite the government providing billions of taxpayer dollars to school districts during the pandemic, in part to replace obsolete HVAC systems, hire up-to-date workers, retire teachers and raise salaries. Reports also show that less than 40 percent of public schools that received the money used it to address air conditioning problems.

“The same people who should have had the best interests of our children at heart have repeatedly betrayed them. It’s time for us to give parents a voice back, ban corrupt teachers unions from using tax money to advance their radical agendas, and send them a clear message: LEAVE OUR CHILDREN ALONE!” Jackson said.

In September, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) introduced legislation to make this possible stop federal funds from any elementary or middle school that allowed students to change their gender without informing their parents.

“The law in the United States has long recognized the importance of parental rights. The right of parents to supervise their child’s education is guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment,” the bill states. “Parents have a fundamental, constitutionally guaranteed right to raise and educate their children in the way they want.”

“Public schools across the country are violating these basic parental and family rights by intentionally withholding information about gender reassignment from parents,” it continues.

“Schools exist to educate children, not to indoctrinate them. And a quality education requires input from those who know children best: their parents,” Scott said in “a statement about its legislation. “Unfortunately, radical and secretive gender policies have left parents out of the conversation and damaged their trust. My bill will protect parental rights, improve crucial relationships between parents and schools, and ensure that children can learn in an environment free from activist ideology.”
