Former and potentially future President Donald Trump continues to gain political support in delicate of the federal charges against him. On Monday evening, on the eve of his impeachment, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) posted on social media that he supports Trump in 2024.

The timing appears to have been no coincidence, as Hyde-Smith’s statement began by recalling the allegations against Trump. “The prosecution of President Trump in New York is a political stunt by a prosecutor whose campaign was financed by George Soros. This farce is aimed at the prosecutor’s self-promotion and has nothing to do with justice. I believe that the whole thing will backfire on the prosecutor and the Democrats,” we read.
The statement then reminded people of what the country looked like in light of Trump’s policies, which Hyde-Smith said had “made America better,” and then mentioned how “we secured hundreds of miles across the U.S.-Mexico border, cut taxes, appointed conservative judges, had a healthy economy , wages were rising, we were respected all over the world and we were energy independent.
“I support a return to these policies and to President Trump’s effective leadership,” the statement continued. In closing, Hyde-Smith doubled her support. “That’s why I support Donald J. Trump for another term in the White House and will work to help him win the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 2024. I call on my fellow Mississippians and Republicans across the country to join me in supporting President Trump and I am acting on his behalf,” the statement read, after Hyde-Smith also shared how Trump helped Mississippi.
Trump has already won several endorsements, including from Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), and Eric Schmitt (R-MO), as well as Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), whom he helped win the Ohio Senate primary after endorsing him last April. Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), who is running to replace retiring Sen. Mike Braun (R-IN), also endorsed Trump, and Trump endorsed him in his race.
In addition to Senator Hyde-Smith’s support, it appears that Trump is gaining even more political favor as a result of the impeachment. He’s already done it showed that he is ahead in surveys against their current and potential primary candidates and this advantage still holds.
The Trump campaign also benefited from a surge in donations, according to a memo issued during the campaign. “Within 24 hours of the false indictment, Americans from all 50 states donated more than that amount $4 million to President Trump’s campaign, with more than 25% of donations coming from first-time donors. Extra $1 million was raised within the second 24 hours,” reads the April 2 memo.
The Trump campaign does not appear to be ending these efforts. As Madeline mentioned earlier, the goal of the campaign is to sell T-shirts with a bogus photo of Trump.
“47th president” also trended on Twitter, further highlighting how these allegations could potentially, even likely, benefit Trump politically.
