On January 6, 2021, more than a dozen FBI informants entered restricted areas in and around the Capitol, according to the Justice Department’s general investigatory (IG) report released Thursday.
Department of Justice oversight (*6*)report which examined FBI intelligence-gathering activities leading up to January 6, found that the FBI had 26 informants in Washington who reported to the bureau on “domestic terrorism.”
Of the more than two dozen informants, four entered the Capitol during the riot and 13 others crossed the security perimeter to enter the Capitol elaborate, according to the report.
The Justice Department IG’s findings were not previously known. Former FBI Director Christopher Wray consistently refused to tell lawmakers whether the bureau had informants or undercover agents on Capitol Hill during the Jan. 6 riot.
In July, FBI Director Chris Wray AVOIDED a question about confidential human sources at the Capitol on January 6.

“I will never go into the when and where, or use confidential human sources,” Wray he said Indiana Republican Victoria Spartz during a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee in July in response to her question about whether the FBI had informants at the Capitol on January 6.
The report found that despite appearing to have committed some of the same crimes as those who participated in the January 6 riots and who were prosecuted by the Justice Department, none of the FBI informants who entered to the U.S. Capitol elaborate, no charges were filed. Nearly 1,500 Americans have been charged by Biden’s Justice Department in connection with incidents related to January 6.
“None of the FBI’s confidential human sources (CHS) were authorized to enter the Capitol or a restricted area or otherwise violate the law on January 6, nor were any CHSs ordered to encourage others to commit illegal acts on January 6,” the department’s investigating general wrote Justice.
According to the report, there is no evidence that any of the bureau’s undercover agents entered the Capitol during the riot.
It is unclear whether members of the House Select Committee on the January 6 attack were previously aware of the report’s findings. Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the January 6 Committee, and the offices of Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiffs did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
