John Kasich wants people to believe he’s supporting Joe Biden for president because his “conscience” tells him to.
Assuming Kasich is genuine about this, a rational observer can only draw one conclusion: he is a moral idiot.
On Monday, the Columbus Dispatch ran a story with the headline: “Kasich says conscience led him to Biden.”
In an interview with this newspaper, the former Republican governor of Ohio portrayed himself as a moral hero, lending his support to the former vice president.
“Leadership means being able to walk a lonely road,” he told the newspaper.
“My decision is right and good,” he said.
On August 10, Kasich appeared on CNN, where he is a “senior political commentator.” Host Erin Burnett wanted to know why she was going to speak at the Democratic National Convention and support Biden.
“Conscience,” Kasich said.
“I would encourage other Republicans to know that you can … take off your partisan hat and vote based on what your conscience tells you about the future of our country not only for you, but for your children,” Kasich said.
“I’m a conservative,” Kasich told CNN.
“I’m going to disagree with Joe on a lot of things,” he said.
“But ultimately,” Kasich said, “I think he is a man of faith.”
“A lot of people are scratching their heads as to why some of these very conservative evangelicals support Trump,” Kasich said. “It doesn’t seem to be consistent with what they believe as promoted in the Old and New Testaments.”
Really? So Kasich stands with the Bible in support of his “man of faith”, Joe Biden, but Christians break with it in support of President Donald Trump?
The Book of Genesis says of human beings: “Male and female he created them.” What is Biden’s position on this matter?
Biden posted a document online that he calls “The Biden Plan to Improve LGBTQ+ Equality in America and Around the World.”
In it, the former vice president promises: “On his first day in office, Biden will restore Obama-Biden guidelines rolled back by the Trump and Pence administrations that would restore transgender students’ access to sports facilities, bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity. Instruct his Department of Education to vigorously enforce and investigated violations of the civil rights of transgender students.”
Under Biden, human beings, whom God and nature created male, will be able to play girls’ sports and use women’s bathrooms and locker rooms.
However, Kasich’s “conscience” leads him to support this candidate.
The Ten Commandments say, “Thou shalt not kill.”
During the first Democratic debate on July 31, 2019, Biden made it clear that he believed abortion – the killing of an unborn child – was a “right”.
“I support a woman’s right to choose. I support that this is a constitutional right,” he said. “I have supported it and I will continue to support it and, in fact, I will work as president to also make sure that Congress legislates this.”
In the same debate, he also made clear that he supported federal funding of abortion.
Thus, Biden not only supports the legalized killing of unborn children, but also wants to force taxpayers to pay for it.
Biden goes beyond this and attacks the very thing that Kasich says drives him to support Biden: conscience.
As we noted earlier in this column, Biden has said he will seek to restore Obama administration regulations that were originally constrained by the Supreme Court’s hobby lobby decision. That decision said the federal government cannot force business owners to pay for abortion-inducing drugs and devices under their health insurance plans if they have a religious objection.
“Biden’s Agenda for Women” states that “Biden… will restore the contraceptive mandate included in the Affordable Care Act ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on the hobby lobby.”
This would force Americans to act against their conscience and deliberately destroy human life.
However, Kasich’s “conscience” led him to support a candidate who promises to commit this tyrannical act.
In his speech at the Democratic National Convention, Kasich did not mention a single public policy issue. However, he presented the election as a moral choice.
“The stakes in this election are greater than any seen in modern times,” Kasich said.
“Many of us are deeply concerned about the current path we have been on over the last four years,” he said. “It is a path that has led to division, dysfunction, irresponsibility and growing anger among our citizens.
“Continuing down this path will have consequences for the soul of America,” he said.
Kasich – a self-proclaimed “conservative” with a “conscience” – has apparently determined that setting America on the path to restoring its soul requires putting a man in the White House who will demand that boys be allowed in girls’ locker rooms, that killing unborn children is a “right,” and that making others pay for these killings is a lawful exercise of federal power.
